Knitting 201 Class: Top-Down Socks!

Join us for a two-session class at Black Sheep Craft Shop from and learn to knit socks that you can customize to fit any foot!

CLASS DATES: Saturday, September 13 and 20 2-4pm each day

    SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN

    • Top-down sock knitting construction, including:
      • Casting on and working a short ribbed cuff
      • Dividing stitches and knitting the heel
      • Turning a heel
      • Shaping an instep
      • Toe shaping
      • Grafting toe stitches together

    PREREQUISITE SKILLS/AGE LEVEL

    All kids are different but as a general guideline this class is appropriate for knitters age 14 and older. Students should have basic knowledge of long-tail cast-on, knit stitch and purl stitch, and decreases (SSK and K2tog) as well before registering for this class.

    *Note: This class is taught using double-pointed needles (DPNs). While it is beneficial to have used DPNs before, it is not required!

     ADDITIONAL REQUIRED TOOLS FOR PROJECT

    • DPN Needles in size 2, 2.5, or 3 (depending on individual preference/tension) 
    • scissors (also available to borrow in class)
    • tapestry needle 

    ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

    • Rosie Limke has over 50 years of knitting experience and has taught numerous sock classes. Top-down construction on DPNs are her specialty and her custom, beginner-friendly sock pattern has been used by many knitters as an essential starting point to learn to knit socks.
